Dragons Pick up Key Road Win at JMU, 88-82

HARRISONBURG, Va. – Amari Williams scored a career-high 21 points and had 12 rebounds as Drexel picked up a key Colonial Athletic Association win at James Madison on Thursday, 88-82. The Dragons improved to 4-3 in the CAA and are now 9-8 overall. The Dukes fell to 12-6 and 3-4 in league play.
The Dragons trailed by two early in the second half but went on a 10-0 run to take the lead. The margin would increase to as many as 10 points on two occasions in the second half as Drexel led the rest of the way. JMU trimmed the deficit to five points with 1:43 to play on a Vado Morse jump shot, but Williams made three of four free throws on the next two possessions to seal the contest. The Dragons are now 2-1 in road CAA contests this season. It was the team's fifth straight win at the Atlantic Union Bank Center. Last season, the Dragons defeated the Dukes on their home court and then won three in a row against Charleston, Northeastern and Elon during the CAA Championships.
Williams finished the game 6-for-10 from the field and made eight of his 10 attempts from the line. He was one of four Dragons in double figures scoring. Camren Wynter filled up the stat sheet with 15 points, nine rebounds and six assists. Coletrane Washington had a season-high 14 points and was 3-for-4 from behind the arc.
Both teams came out on fire in the first half. Drexel made 11 of its 19 3-point attempts in the half as seven different players had at least one trey. Overall, Drexel shot 55 percent in the opening stanza, but led by just three as JMU was equally as hot. The Dukes drained six of their 10 3-point attempts and shot 50 percent in the half.
Morse led the Dukes with 18 points. Terrence Edwards added 17 points and 11 rebounds. JMU finished the game with 10 3-pointers.
The Dragons have three games left on the road before returning to the Daskalakis Athletic Center. The visit Towson on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.
