Drexel Finishes in Top Three for Second Straight Year at ODU/OBX

POWELLS POINT, N.C. - The Drexel golf team had its best round of the fall on Tuesday at the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate. The Dragons shot 12-under par, which tied for the second best single round in school history. Drexel ended the tournament in sole possession of third place.
The Dragons were hot from the start on Tuesday at the par-71, 6,587-yard Kilmaric Country Club. All four of the Dragons scorers shot under par on the day. Oscar Maxfield, a graduate student, bounced back nicely in round three by shooting a 66 (-5). Maxfield had six birdies and eagled the par-five 12th hole. He shot six-under par on the back nine. Drue Nicholas continued his solid, consistent play. The junior fired a three-under-par 68. He had just one bogey on his way to a third-straight round in the 60s and finished in second place overall at 206 (-7). It was the second straight season that Nicholas finished in second place at the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate. Griffin Mitchell shot two-under in the final round. The junior had a stellar tournament, finishing up at even par (213) and tying for eighth place overall. Tafadzwa Nyamukondiwa also shot a 69 for the second-consecutive day. He tied for 18th overall as the Dragons had three student-athletes finish in the top 20.
North Dakota State won the event with a 14-under par score of 838. The Bison finished seven shots better than SIU Edwardsville. The Dragons were six shots back of SIU. They were 16 shots ahead of Longwood, who placed fourth. The Dragons came within three shots of tying the school record for strokes under par in a single round. They set that mark in March during the third round of the Dorado Beach Collegiate in Puerto Rico.
