No. 3 Women's Squash Takes Thrilling Victory Against No. 8 Columbia

PHILADELPHIA – The No. 3 Drexel women's squash team was pushed to the brink, but the Dragons were able to hold off the No. 8 Columbia Lions, 5-4 on Friday afternoon.
DU showed its depth in the match, earning the win with victories in the third, fourth, fifth, sixth and eighth spots on the ladder.
With the contest tied at 4-4, Moa Bonnemark found herself down 2-1 in the sixth position. The freshman won the fourth game to knot the match. The deciding game started evenly, but a 5-1 run by Bonnemark allowed her to take charge and claim a thrilling 3-11, 11-1, 9-11, 11-7, 11-5 final to clinch the overall victory for the Dragons.
Drexel had gone up 4-3 two matches previous as in the eighth position, Emma Bartley came away with an 11-4, 6-11, 11-1, 11-4 victory against Ellie McVeigh.
In the opening rotation, Margot Prow got the day started for DU with an 11-4, 11-7, 11-4 win in the fourth position. Columbia won the next matches at numbers seven and nine to take a 2-1 lead. After Dina Rosli rallied for an 11-8, 6-11, 6-11, 11-5, 11-2 victory in the fifth position, the Lions regained the advantage at the turn with a win at No. 2. Opening the second rotation, Noa Romero tied the match in the third spot, downing Erica McGillicuddy 12-10, 11-3, 6-11, 11-9.
Now 4-0 on the season, Drexel next takes on No. 5 Yale on Sunday, December 4. Opening serve from the Kline & Specter Squash Center is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
