Oden's 16 Points Not Enough as Princeton Defeats Drexel, 83-63
12/3/2022 4:16:00 PM | Men's Basketball
PHILADELPHIA - Princeton shot 63 percent from the field in the second half and defeated Drexel, 83-63, in the Daskalakis Athletic Center Saturday afternoon. Lamar Oden, Jr. led the Dragons with 16 points, but it was not enough as the Tigers won their sixth straight game (6-2). Drexel's record fell to 4-5.
Drexel trailed by 11 early in the second half, but chipped away and cut the lead to five with 12:23 to play on one of Oden Jr.'s four 3-pointers in the game. Princeton countered with five straight points and Drexel never got within five points again. Blake Peters hit a big 3-pointer that was followed by a Matt Allocco bucket in the paint. Princeton was 20-for-32 in the second half.
The Tigers, who led wire-to-wire, started the game with nine straight points as the Dragons didn't score for more than five minutes. It was 18-6 early, but the Dragons, due mainly to their bench, went on a 12-3 run to make it a three-point game. That didn't last long as Princeton made back-to-back 3-pointers and entered halftime with a nine-point cushion.
Oden Jr. was 4-for-7 from deep in the game and had 16 points or more for the third time in four games. Jamie Bergens came off the bench to score 12 points and hand out four assists. Drexel finished the game shooting 42 percent from the floor but Princeton handled the Dragons on the glass, 39-23. The Tigers had 12 offensive boards.
Allocco led everyone with 19 points and was 9-for-12 shooting. Tosan Evbuomwan picked up a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Ryan Langborg added 11 points as five Tigers scored at least 10 points.
Drexel is off for finals week and won't play again until next Saturday afternoon. The Dragons visit Gola Arena to face La Salle in a game that can be seen on the USA Network.
