Dragons Tie for Sixth in Spring Opener at Advance Golf Partners Collegiate

PALM CITY, Fla. - The Drexel golf team opened the 2022 spring season with a sixth place finish at the Advance Golf Partners Collegiate in Palm City, Fla. Drue Nicholas had an outstanding final round, firing a five-under-par 67 at Hammock Creek Golf Club. The Dragons had a solid final day with a 694 (+6), which tied for the fourth-best round of the day
Nicholas had the best round of any player in the tournament field and tied for sixth overall individually. He had six birdies on the day, three on the front and three on the back, and finished with 12 in the tournament. That tied for the second-best total among the 120 competitors. Jeffrey Cunningham shot even par in his last round. The graduate student completed the event at four-over par, which placed him in a tie for 20th place. Angelo Giantsopoulos had a 77 on Tuesday and finished the 54-hole tournament at seven-over par. Griffin Mitchell rounded out the scoring at 13-over par after a 78 on the final day.
UNCG, the host school, won the tournament by shooting 870, which was six-over par. Creighton was in second place at 873, while George Mason placed third one shot better than UConn. Mercer finished fifth at +21, just two strokes ahead of Drexel and Western Carolina. There were 21 teams in the 2022 Advance Golf Partners Collegiate field.
