No. 8 Men's Squash Wins Pool A at Mid-Atlantic Squash Conference Championships

LANCASTER, Pa. – The No. 8 Drexel University men's squash won Pool A at the Mid-Atlantic Squash Conference Championships with a pair of 9-0 sweeps on Saturday, downing No. 14 Franklin & Marshall in the morning session before taking down No. 23 Navy in the afternoon.
With the wins, the Dragons advance to the championship game of the tournament on Sunday at 11:30 a.m. where they will face No. 9 Virginia who won Pool B.
Haris Qasim got things started against F&M with an 11-3, 11-5, 11-7 win against Teddy Eill in the third spot. Filip Krueger followed with an 11-7, 11-4, 11-9 victory against Allen Tompkins at number six. Lucas Rousselet and Gautam Nagpal needed four games to dispatch their opponents, but both were up to the task, building the Drexel lead to 4-0. DU clinched its second win of the season against the Diplomats when Jose Lopez beat Jordan Sprecher 11-5, 11-2, 11-4 at number four.
Into the second rotation, Noel Heaton continued his impressive year with an 11-3, 11-7, 11-4 victory in the fifth spot, followed by Matias Knudsen winning 11-9, 11-2, 11-1 at number two. Rounding out the sweep were Shaan Dalal at number nine and Matthew Lucente in the seventh position.
In the afternoon contest against the Midshipmen, Knudsen opened the match by moving to number one and claimed an 11-4, 11-0, 11-1 win against Ryan York. Lucente quickly followed with an 11-3, 11-1, 11-1 win against Benjamin Balser at number eight. Michael Berry remained undefeated on the year with an 11-3, 11-2, 11-3 win in the ninth spot against Wiliam Hyer. Heaton earned his second win of the day as, playing at number six, he topped Thomas Rankin 11-5, 11-5, 11-4. The clinching point came in the third position where Fritiof Jacobsson downed Matthew Wang in four games, 11-5, 9-11, 11-4, 11-4.
Finishing out the day for DU, Lopez took an 11-2, 11-3, 11-2 win against Lucas Spiro at number five soon followed by Krueger winning 11-8, 11-4, 11-2 versus Gus Prager in the seventh spot. In the final two matches Qasim and Dylan Kachur won at numbers two and four respectively.
