LANCASTER, Pa. – The No. 6 Drexel University women's squash team won the Mid-Atlantic Squash Conference Championship, claiming a 5-4 victory against No. 7 Virginia on Sunday afternoon.
It is the second time the Dragons have won the MASC Championship, matching their performance from 2020.
The top of the ladder shined for Drexel as Karina Tyma, Alina Bushma, and Margot Prow all won in the first, second, and third spots respectively. Tyma outlasted Megan Best, winning the first game 11-9 before dropping the second 13-11. After Tyma took a 2-1 lead following the third game, Best battled back to force a deciding fifth game where Tyma prevailed 11-5.
Bushma had an easier time with Maria Moya at number two, winning 11-5, 11-4, 12-10, which proved to be the winning point in the match. Like Tyma, Prow needed the full five games to defeat her opponent. After dropping the opening game 11-9 to Olivia Walsh, Prow proceeded to win the longest game a Dragon has played in the 2021-22 season, taking the second 19-17. She then won the third 11-6 before Walsh took the fourth 11-7. Prow rallied and came back to claim the fifth game 11-7, bringing home a crucial point for Drexel.
Also taking home wins on the day were Ciara Richards who won 11-7, 11-5, 7-11, 11-3 at number seven and Dina Rosli, who battled from behind in the eighth spot, winning 11-13, 11-9, 11-7, 11-4 against Erin O'Connor.
Drexel returns to action on Saturday, February 12 when it travels to Ithaca, N.Y. to take on Cornell at noon and Saint Lawrence at 4:00 p.m.
