
Women's Squash Strong Across The Board At CSA Individual Championships

PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel University women's squash team had a standout day at the CSA Individual Championships on Friday with four members of the team advancing to Saturday as the Dragons posted an overall match record of 10-6.
In the main draw, Alina Bushma guaranteed herself First Team All-America honors, defeating Andrea Toth of Princeton 11-8, 11-8, 10-12, 11-7 to advance to the quarterfinal where she fell to top-seeded Sivasangari Subramaniam of Cornell 11-7, 11-5, 11-4.
Also in the Ramsay Cup, Karina Tyma battled to the final point in both of her matches, but saw her season end with a pair of five-game setbacks. By qualifying for the main draw, she will garner Second Team All-America recognition.
In the Holleran North draw, third-seeded Margot Prow remained in contention for All-America accolades. She picked up wins against Abby Holding 11-1, 11-6, 11-2 and Lily Taylor-French 11-7, 8-11, 11-7, 11-7 to advance to the semifinals where, facing No. 2 seed Christy Tin Yan Lau of Yale.
Dina Rosli made some program history, tying Hannah Blatt for the most single-season wins at Drexel with 17 as she defeated Ellie McVeigh 17-15, 11-9, 5-11, 11-4 before bowing to the draw's top seed Si Ma in a hotly contested battle that went to extra points in a fifth game, 11-6, 6-11, 9-11, 11-5, 13-11. Lydia Robinson also won her first match of the day, an 11-8, 11-8, 14-12 victory against Amna Fayyaz of Dickinson before a four-game setback against Lau in the second round.
The Holleran South draw sees two Drexel student-athletes still going. Noa Romero advanced to the semifinals of the draw and kept her chances at All-America honors alive with wins against No. 14 Navmi Sharma of Penn and No. 6 Brianna Jefferson of Yale. Romero faces No. 2 Maria Moya of Virginia on Saturday. With the pair of wins, Romero matches Rosli for the single-season record with 17 victories.
Ciara Richards dropped her first match of the day, but rebounded in the consolation bracket to defeat Nina Thomas of Georgetown 11-4, 11-8, 11-2 and will take on Riddhi Joshi of Tufts tomorrow.
In Holleran West, Brooke Herring handled Josephine Klein of Princeton 11-5, 11-1, 13-11 to advance to the second round. There, she dispatched Charlotte Orcutt of Harvard 10-12, 13-11, 12-10 11-4 to advance to the semifinals of the draw where she will take on No. 9 Emily Rose of Princeton on Saturday.
