PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel men's tennis team defeated the Villanova Wildcats on Tuesday afternoon in the Drexel Tennis Bubble, 4-3.
Villanova edged the Dragons in doubles play by taking the first and second-seeded matches. In the No. 3 doubles match, Juan Manuel Sanchez and Matvey Radionov downed their opponents, 6-4.
The Dragons bounced back in singles play. Alex De Sousa came back after dropping the first set to win his second-seeded match convincingly, 3-6, 6-1, 6-3. Djordje Janackovic finished his third-seeded match with identical 6-4 sets to earn Drexel its second point. Villanova grabbed the top flight to even the match score at two. Manuel Sanchez gave Drexel the lead with a clean sweep of his opponent, 6-0, 6-0. Radionov clinched the final point needed for the win, 6-2, 6-3.
The Dragons return to the courts on Friday, April 15 when they travel to Newark, Del. to face the Delaware Blue Hens. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m.
