Dragons Dominate at Murphy Cup Regatta

PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel University men's and women's rowing teams had a dominant performance at the Murphy Cup Regatta on Saturday, winning five of the six races they competed in.
On the men's side, the Varsity 8+, rowing in Lois Krall III and comprised of Sam DeSilva (coxswain), Josh Diggons (stroke), Matt Reilly, Dimitrije Ibrocic, Damian Lis, Michael Pazderski, Andrew Manns, John Karen, and Roman Smigiel (bow) claimed the top spot in a time of 5:20.64, besting the event host Temple by more than four seconds. The Dragons V8+ came into the race ranked 16th in the IRA Poll.
In the 2V8+, DU once again outrowed the Owls. Racing in Lois Krall II, Drexel finished with a 5:48.11 clocking, six seconds better than TU. The 3V8+ race saw the Dragons A boat take first in a time of 6:03.97, competing in Sandra Lee Sheller II.
For the women, the 3V8+ boat, racing in Marlene Buckley, topped the list in a time of 6:54.07. The Freshman 8+ in Maria Papadakis won with a 7:00.71 clocking, besting Delaware by more than eight seconds.
Next up for the men is the GW Invite on April 10. The women compete at the Knecht Cup on April 9.
