Dragons Begin Play at CAA Championships on Sunday

ST. HELENA ISLAND, S.C. - The Drexel golf team will begin play in the Colonial Athletic Association Championships on Sunday morning in South Carolina. The teams will tee off at the Cotton Dike Course on Dataw Island, where they will play 54 holes over three days to determine the CAA champion.
Drexel played well last year on this very course in the CAA's. The Dragons had their best finish since joining the CAA. Ben Feld's team finished second overall at seven-under par. Angelo Giantsopoulos shot an eight-under-par 208 to set a new Drexel postseason record. He was named to the All-Tournament Team and tied for second overall on the leaderboard. Jeffrey Cunningham finished fifth overall with a three-under-par 213. Cunningham was also named to the All-Tournament Team. Both players are back for one more run at both a team and individual championship. The other Dragons competing include Griffin Mitchell, Tafadzwa Nyamukondiwa and Drue Nicholas. Nyamukondiwa is coming off an individual victory at the Yale Spring Invitational, while Nicholas has had 14 rounds of par or better this academic year.
The Dragons had their final tune-up on Thursday afternoon when they played a dual match against USC Beaufort. The teams competed in a match-play event. USC Beaufort defeated the Dragons, 4-2.
The Cotton Dike Course will play at 6,787 for the tournament and par is 72. The first round on Sunday will begin at 8:30, as will round two on Monday. The final round begins at 8 a.m. on Tuesday.
