PHILADELPHIA - Delaney Lappin scored twice in the opening 10 minutes as the Drexel women's soccer team remained unbeaten through eight games with the Dragons claiming a 3-0 win against Lafayette on Sunday afternoon.

BY THE NUMBERS

Lappin recorded her fourth and fifth goals of the season, both within the first 10 minutes of the match. With the pair of tallies, she matched her goal total from all of last season.
It was the second multi-goal game of her career.
Kailey Horton notched her first goal of the season. Elise Duffy posted her first career assist.
With the win, Drexel is now unbeaten in eight consecutive matches. It ties the spring 2021 Hofstra team for the third longest unbeaten streak to open a season in CAA history.

HOW IT HAPPENED

For the fourth time this season, DU got on the board in the opening 10 minutes of the match as the Leopards keeper tried to clear a ball. Her strike instead went right into Lappin, who settled, moved around the goalie and walked the ball into the net at the 2:49 mark.
Less than six minutes later, Drexel was awarded a penalty kick as Casey Touey was tackled in the box. Lappin stepped to the spot and calmly deposited the ball into the lower left for a 2-0 lead.
After pressuring the Leopards defense for the first 25 minutes of the second half, the Dragons broke through as Duffy made a run down the left side. Nearing the goal line, she centered the ball through traffic to a waiting Horton, who tapped it in with her left foot to create the final margin.

Drexel is off until September 22 when it opens conference play at the College of Charleston. Opening tap from Patriots Point is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
