Drexel Scores Four Goals in Conference Win and Home Opener Against William & Mary

PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel men's soccer team opened its conference and home slate against William & Mary on Saturday night. The Dragons scored four goals to defeat the Tribe after 90 minutes, 4-1.

Drexel returns to the pitch on September, 6 to face the Lafayette Leopards at Vidas Athletic Complex. The opening tap is scheduled for 6 p.m.
BY THE NUMBERS:
- While William & Mary led in shots, Drexel was more consistent, taking eight of its 10 shots on goal.
- Alessandro Capogna earned his third start for Drexel and made the most of the opportunity. The junior made seven saves, including a highlight save in the first half.
- Four different Dragons checked in with a goal. Daniel Nesseler scored his second goal of the season, while Yassine Elkahloun, Cesar Banacloy and Joshua Pulla scored their first goals of the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Elkahloun scored the first goal in the 24th minute of the game. The senior received a feed from Kyle Tucker and shot the ball into the upper-left portion of the goal.
- Three minutes later, the Dragons struck once more. Banacloy received a pass from Antonio Illuminato and took a shot from just in front of the 18-yard box, and beat the Tribe's keeper to the right.
- The Dragons capped off their first half by scoring in the 38th minute with a penalty kick by Nesseler. The graduate student made the keeper dive to the left while Nesseler's shot went to the right.
- After William and Mary scored its first goal of the match in the 58th minute, Drexel went back on the offensive. On a one-on-one with the Tribe keeper in the 84th minute, Pulla took a shot which the Tribe keeper batted down. The junior settled the ball once more and put it in the back of the net to push Drexel's lead back to three.
