1/15/2023 2:59:00 PM | Women's Basketball
WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Faced with a double-digit halftime deficit, the Drexel women's basketball team cut the lead to five during the third quarter, but the Dragons ended on the short side of a 74-58 final against the William & Mary Tribe on Sunday afternoon.
BY THE NUMBERS
HOW IT HAPPENED
It was a slow start for the Dragons out of the gate as the Tribe took a quick 13-4 lead. Helped by a pair of three-pointers from Hendrixson, Drexel played evenly the rest of the first quarter. The Tribe continued its hot shooting into the second. DU was uncharacteristically hurt by turnovers in the first half, as William & Mary took a 42-26 lead into the break.
Starting midway through the third quarter, the game was played in more of a Drexel fashion as the Dragons went on a 15-2 run in the span of 5:09, cutting the lead to 48-43 with 53 seconds left in the frame. DU also turned up the defense, holding the Tribe to 3-for-14 shooting and forced four turnovers in the period. Drexel held the game in single digits early into the fourth, but W&M pulled away late to create the final.
UP NEXT
Drexel is off until Sunday, January 22, when it travels to Towson. Tipoff from SECU Arena is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
