PHILADELPHIA – The No. 7 Drexel men's squash team took on the No. 6 Trinity Bantams in its first home match of the 2023 calendar year, battling hard before being upended 8-1 on Wednesday night.
Earning a point for Drexel was José López in the third position with an 11-8, 11-9, 11-8 sweep against Joachim Chuah.
The Dragons pushed the Bantams to five games in a trio of matches. At number six, Noel Heaton was outlasted 11-2, 9-11, 6-11, 11-4, 11-7 by Danial Izham and Shomari Wiltshire battled to an 8-11, 11-2, 11-6, 6-11, 11-5 decision against Khamal Cumberbatch in the eighth spot. In the final contest of the evening, Filip Krueger fought back to tie his match at 2-2 and forced extra points in the deciding game in the fifth position.
Drexel returns to action on February 3 when it opens the Mid-Atlantic Squash Conference Championships in Charlottesville, Va. Draws for the event will be announced at a later date.
