HOW IT HAPPENED
- Drexel struggled out of the gate, but found its rhythm in a big way, using an 11-0 run to go up by seven at the first media timeout. The Dragons closed the quarter by connecting on six of their final 12 shots as DU was on top 17-8 after 10 minutes.
- Neither team took command in the second quarter, but Drexel was able to use a balanced effort that saw six players score in the frame as the Dragons took a 33-23 advantage at the break.
- Elon got the jump in the third, using a 12-6 run, slicing the edge to 39-35, but an old-fashioned three-point play by Hodges and a driving layup from Washington pushed DU ahead 44-35 with 2:20 left in the stanza.
- An early push in the fourth quarter saw the Dragons go up by 14 at the 8:15 mark, but DU went cold from there as the Phoenix closed the gap to 55-49 with less than two minutes remaining. With just more than a minute left and the shot clock winding down, O'Neill put the game on ice, nailing a corner trey as Drexel scored the final six points.
