Dragons Fall Short to Stony Brook, 3-1

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The Drexel women's soccer team scored an equalizing goal in the second half but could not contain the Stony Brook Seawolves as the team defeated the Dragons 3-1 on Thursday night.
The Seawolves checked into the match in the first half. In the 42nd minute, Stony Brook raced down the field and poked a ball past Joella Chase to take the one-goal lead.
Drexel opened the second half with a goal. The Seawolves were called for a handball just outside the penalty area. On the restart, Lily Dunbar served a ball into the box and found the head of Delaney Lappin who sent the ball over the outstretched gloves of the Stony Brook keeper and knotted the match at one.
Stony Brook was awarded a penalty kick in the 54th minute. Linn Beck took the strike for Stony Brook and converted the shot to the lower left of the goal. In the 81st minute, Stony Brook was given another penalty kick for a handball by the Dragons in the penalty area. The Seawolves took advantage of the opportunity and pushed the score to 3-1.
Drexel returns to Philadelphia to close out the 2023 regular season with two home matches. The Dragons will host the UNCW Seahawks on Thursday, October 19 at 6 p.m. The final match of the regular season features the Hampton Pirates on October 22 at noon.
