Dragons Complete Day One of ITA Northeast Regionals

PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel men's tennis team completed the first day of the ITA Northeast Regionals at Penn University on Friday afternoon. The Dragons, who entered five names into the singles draw, will send all to day two.
The Dragons played two singles matches on the first day of the regional tournament. Alan Jesudason, who was pre-seeded 1-7, Hussein El Tawil, who was pre-seeded 17-24, and Alex De Sousa, who was pre-seeded 25-32, all earned byes into the round of 64.
Will Burridge started his regional tournament off with a three-set victory against Joshua Oboniye of FDU, by winning the second and third sets, 6-3, 6-3. The freshman faces Carl Gustavson [9-16] of Saint John's at 11:30 a.m.
Egor Kirakosov punched his ticket to day two after taking down Michael Malkin of Buffalo in three sets, 6-3, 3-6, 6-1. The sophomore moves on to face Mateo Bivol [9-16] of Monmouth at 11:30 on Saturday.
The schedule for tomorrow's matches at Penn can be found below. The first matches, featuring Kirakosov and Burridge are to begin at 11:30 a.m. De Sousa will begin his tournament at 1:30 p.m., while El Tawil and Jesudason both begin their competition at 5:30 p.m.
