Duffy Second Half Score Helps Dragons Draw at Elon

ELON, N.C. – Elise Duffy scored off a set piece midway through the second half as the Drexel women's soccer team forged a 1-1 draw in CAA action against the Elon Phoenix on Sunday afternoon.
The Dragons nearly scored in the opening 90 seconds for a second consecutive match as coming off an early corner, Gabrielle Perrotto headed a ball in the mixer that clipped the underside of the crossbar before being cleared by an Elon defender. Despite consistent pressure from Drexel, it was the Phoenix who cracked the scoreboard first, tallying in the 14th minute.
DU once again had a good opportunity, this time in the 60th minute as Lily Dunbar delivered a shallow corner. Annalena O'Reilly chipped it into the middle of the box where Delaney Lappin headed the ball, beating the keeper, but was denied by the crossbar.
Drexel cashed in on a set piece in the 70th minute. From just outside the box, Dunbar sent the ball low into the middle of the area where Duffy came on and one-timed it into the back of the net.
Drexel completes a three-match road trip when it travels to Stony Brook on Thursday, October12. Opening tap is scheduled for 6:31 p.m.
