Dragons Face Fairfield in First Game of Market Street Challenge

PHILADELPHIA - Drexel will host a multi-team event starting Friday night at the Daskalakis Athletic Center. The Dragons will face Fairfield at 7 p.m. The Stags will then play Queens (N.C.) on Saturday evening at the DAC. On Sunday afternoon at 2, Drexel will face Queens. The International Brotherhood of Electrical Worker's Local 98 is once again the presenting sponsor of Drexel Men's Basketball. Friday's game against the Stags is brought to you by The Study.
About the Dragons
Drexel enters the game with a 1-2 record overall. The Dragons lost a heartbreaker against Temple, 66-64, in front of a sold out DAC on Tuesday night. The Dragons came up with an offensive rebound off of a free throw with two seconds left but Amari Williams' shot rolled out as Temple escaped with the win. It was the first time the Owls came to the DAC since the 1985-86 season. Luke House drained four 3-pointers and finished with a season-high 20 points. Justin Moore added 18 as the Dragons dropped their first ever Big 5 home game.
Drexel was picked to finish third in the CAA this season. The Dragons return four of five starters from a team that won 17 games a year ago. Williams is the CAA Preseason Player of the Year. The big man from England has won the CAA Defensive Player of the Year each of the last two seasons. Williams and Moore each average 14 points per game. Tri-captains Luke House is 7-for-14 from long range and chips in with 9.7 . Lamar Oden, Jr. and Mate Okros are also back. All three players were members of Drexel's 2021 CAA Championship team. Moore, Drexel's point guard, was an All-CAA Rookie team pick last year and is poised to have an even bigger year in 2023-24. Overall, Drexel will have 10 returning scholarship players from a year ago.
About the Stags
The Stags are 1-2 this season. They have road losses at Boston College and at Rhode Island. Their win came against Mt. St. Mary (N.Y.), 92-45. Brycene Goodine is one of four regulars and five players who average at least 10 points per game. He averages 20.3 points per game and is shooting 48 percent from deep with 13 3-pointers. Louis Bleechmore is shooting 50 percent from the floor and averages 16.7. The Stags shoot 37 percent from behind the arc. Chris Casey is the Stags' Interim Head Coach
About the Royals
The Royals are coming off a 74-72 win against High Point and are now 1-2. They previously fell to Marshall and to Southern Illinois. A.J. McKee is off to a good start and scores 19.3 points per game to lead the team. Deyton Albury averages 15 and leads the Royals with six rebounds per game. Chris Ashby is the Royals' sharp shooter as all eight of his field goals this year are from deep. Grant Leonard is in his second year as head coach of the Royals, who are a member of the Atlantic Sun.

The previous year, Drexel won by a 77-69 score in the DAC. Samme Givens scored a career-high 31 points in the game for the Dragons. That was the fourth straight win for Drexel, who extended that inning streak to 19-straight games.
