Hodges Scores Career-High, Drexel Defeats Marist, 51-36

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Chloe Hodges scored a career-high 18 points and led the Drexel women's basketball team (3-3) to a victory against the Marist Red Foxes (2-6), 51-36, on Wednesday night in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.

Hodges led the scoring after shooting 9-for-11 and corralling seven boards. The mark tops her previous career-high of 15 set on January 29, 2023, against Elon.
Momo LaClair added 11 points to the effort after going 5-for-7, grabbing five rebounds and adding two steals.
Drexel's defense was stellar, holding Marist to just 28.6% from the field. The Dragons also held the Red Foxes to single digits in three quarters, including holding the home team to just four in the final quarter.
Drexel never lost the lead, despite Marist's 18-10 third quarter. DU pushed its largest lead to 15 with a minute left to play in the game.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Drexel opened the game on a 6-0 run, forcing the Red Foxes to call a timeout three minutes into the quarter after shooting 0-for-5 from the field. Marist finished the quarter held at eight points on 3-for-13 shooting. Five different Dragons checked into the scoring column. Leading the way after 10 minutes of play were Hetta Saatman and Hodges, who each had four points. Drexel led Marist 16-8 at the end of the first.
The Dragons started the second quarter playing some of their best defense. Drexel held the home team to just six points, only making 3-of-14 shots. At the end of the first half, Hodges led the team in points, but six players scored in the first half. All players had three points or more. The Dragons held a 25-13 lead heading into the locker room.
The Red Foxes chipped away at the Dragons lead, opening the half on a 9-2 run to start the third quarter. With just a four-point lead, Drexel called its first timeout to send the game into the media break. But the Dragons held on to their lead and pulling away from the Red Foxes. To end the quarter, Hodges drove to the basket and beat the buzzer to put Drexel ahead, 35-32.
Drexel widened the gap in the fourth frame. The Dragons shot 7-of-12 from the floor to put 16 points on the board, holding Marist to its lowest quarter of the game, four points. The Red Foxes only connected on one shot after taking a total of 11. Drexel finished the game on a 10-1 run.

The Dragons return to the Daskalakis Athletic Center for a pair of games. The first of the two is against the Buffalo Bulls on Saturday, December 9 at 2 p.m. The Dragons will then host the ACC powerhouse Florida State on Sunday, December 17 at 2 p.m.
