PHILADELPHIA – A career-high 27-point performance by Brook Mullin propelled the Dragons (4-3) past Buffalo (5-3), 65-57, on Saturday afternoon at the Daskalakis Athletic Center.
BY THE NUMBERS
Brooke Mullin scored a career and team season-high 27 points on 11-for-22 shooting and three treys. Her 27 points top her previous career high of 17, which she set against Lehigh earlier this season.
Grace O'Neill finished with 10 points, seven rebounds and seven assists. Chole Hodges was the third Dragon to crack double-digit scoring with 11 points on four assists and six rebounds.
Drexel's scoring off turnovers shined against Buffalo. DU caused 17 turnovers and scored 25 points off those turnovers.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dragons and Bulls were back and forth for the entirety of the first quarter. After Buffalo jumped out to a 9-2 lead in the first three minutes, Mullin hit a jumper that began a run for the Dragons to tie the game at 11. Drexel and Bulls were tied at 15 at the end of the first quarter.
Both teams brought much of the same intensity in the second quarter. Mullin scored 14 points and set a career-high and team-high scoring total after finishing the first half with 21 points. Buffalo was held to 11 points in the second quarter, shooting 4-for-11 from the field.
The Bulls mounted a comeback in the third quarter but could not take the lead. The game was tied twice before Drexel added four points in the final two minutes of the third quarter to take a four-point lead, 49-45.
Buffalo took the lead for the first time since that first-quarter run. However, the lead did not last long as the two teams traded the lead four times before Drexel captured it for good. Mullin drove to the basket and converted a layup to give Drexel a 56-54 lead. From that point, Drexel outscored the Bulls 9-3 in the final three minutes of regulation.
