
No. 4 Women's Squash Wins Second Consecutive Gaynor Cup

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The No. 4 Drexel University women's squash team won the Mid-Atlantic Squash Conference Championship, securing a 6-3 victory against No. 7 Virginia on Sunday morning.
It is the third time the Dragons have won the Gaynor Cup, and their second title in a row as the Dragons won the championship last year as well.
Trailing 1-0, Emma Bartley earned the first point for DU, outlasting Sydney Maxwell in the sixth spot, winning the first game 13-11 before dropping the second 6-11. After Bartley surrendered a 2-1 lead following the third game, she rallied back forcing a deciding fifth game where Bartley was victorious 11-8.
Similarly, Sanya Vats needed the full five games to defeat her opponent. After dropping the opening game 11-4 to Maureen Foley, Vats proceeded to win the next one by a score of 11-9. After Foley took the third 11-5, Vats was able to rally back to win, scoring 11-7 and 12-10 respectively in the last two. Next, Lydia Robinson took care of business against Eliza Mills, winning 5-11, 11-2, 11-6, 11-5 in the nine spot.
Moa Bonnemark was able to cruise past her opponent in the eighth spot as she won her match 11-6, 11-3, 11-5. The clinching point came courtesy of Margot Prow in the fourth spot as she was able to claim victory by a score of 11-8, 11-7, 11-8 against Emma Jinks. Wrapping it up for the Dragons was Karina Tyma who won her match at number two by a score of 11-3, 8-11, 11-3, 11-4.
Drexel returns to the Kline & Specter Squash Center on Friday, February 10 to take on Cornell. The action starts in the late afternoon with a start time of 5:00 p.m.
