Bonino and O'Malley Finish Strong at the NCAA Championships

PHILADELPHIA - Brian Bonino earned EIWA redemption in two impressive victories on the second day of NCAA Championship action in Tulsa. Mickey O'Malley closed out the competition with a heartbreaking defeat against Philip Conigliaro of Harvard.
In the wrestle backs, O'Malley was not able to seek revenge against the conference foe. Each wrestler earned an escape point which evened the match at one headed into sudden victory. In the first minute of the extra period, Conigliaro found a takedown to end the match. O'Malley closes out the season with an impressive 16-6 record.
Bonino's consolation bout set up an exciting rematch of the 3rd place dual at the EIWA Championships. The graduate student battled against #26 David Key of Navy. At the end of regulation, the score was tied at one. About thirty seconds into extra time, the Dragon took down the Midshipmen at the edge of the mat to secure the victory.
In his second bout of the day, he faced EIWA Champion #17 Tate Samuelson. The dual was tied at one apiece and headed into sudden victory at the end of the third period. Samuelson tried to take Bonino down but the Dragon earned leverage to get the takedown and upset the Mountain Hawk to advance to the consolation round of four.
The Paramus, N.J. native was matched up with #6 Kaleb Romero of Ohio State with All-American status on the line. Bonino fell in a major decision against Romero, 15-6 to close out his season. He ends the year with a career-high 24-10 record and a 51-41 overall(Columbia and Drexel).
