PHILADELPHIA - The members of the Drexel field hockey team will get the opportunity of a lifetime during the next two weeks. The Dragons will embark on a eight-day trip to Ireland, where they will visit four cities and play two games against national club teams.
The team will board a bus Saturday evening and drive to Queens, N.Y., where it will catch a nonstop flight out of JFK later that night to Dublin, the capital city of Ireland. The Dragons will be in Dublin and Dublin City for three days. While in the capital, the team will have a walking tour of Dublin and visit Kilmainham Gaol. The Dragons will have their first match that night against the Corinthians Hockey Club. The following day, the team will explore Dublin City and visit the Guinness storehouse.
The next day, after a full-Irish breakfast, Zelenak and the team will travel west to Galway. They will spend the next two days in the province of Connaught. There will be educational opportunities during the visit to Galway including a stop at the Athlone Castle and a walking tour of the city.
The team will face Galway Hockey Club in their final matchup on March 30. The next day, the Dragons will make the short trip to County Clare and will have the opportunity to visit the Alwee Caves which include the Birds of Prey Centre and Cliffs of Moher.
On Saturday, April 1, the team concludes its final full day of their international trip on a full-day sightseeing tour of the Ring of Kerry. The Ring is a 111-mile beautiful drive with views of the mountainside and many other scenic attractions along the way. The team will depart back to the United States on Sunday Afternoon.
The last international trip the team took was in December 2018, when they visited Argentina and Uruguay. The team played against three clubs on their trip to South America.
