Nicholas and Mitchell Named Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area

PHILADELPHIA – Drue Nicholas and Griffin Mitchell of the Drexel golf team, have been named to the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area team, as announced by Philly-SIDA and voted on by the sports information directors in the region.
To be eligible, a student-athlete must be in their sophomore year or higher and have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.30. The award encompasses all three levels of NCAA athletics and is open to all Philadelphia region schools.
Nicholas finished second or better in four tournaments this season with medalist honors at the City 6 Championship and runner-up results at the ODU/OBX at Kilmarlic, Advance Golf Partners Collegiate, and CAA Championship. He notched an average score of 71.5 and 18 rounds of par or better. The junior has been named to the CAA All-Tournament team in each of his last two years and was a First Team All-CAA selection this year. The Egg Harbor Township, N.J. native also was named to the Golf Coaches Association of America Northeast All-Region team.
Mitchell, a junior from New Albany, Ohio, recorded an average score of 72.4 in 2022-23 and five top-10 finishes, including a second-place result at the City 6 Championship and fifth at the Advance Golf Partners Collegiate. He had 14 rounds of par or better on the season and was a Second Team All-CAA pick. Mitchell tied for medalist honors at U.S. Open qualifying. He was one of two amateurs to play that day at Rolling Green to advance through sectionals. The junior was also named to the Golf Coaches Association of America Northeast All-Region team.
