PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel women's soccer team shut out the Fordham Rams, 3-0, on Thursday night to open the 2023 season. The Dragons scored a pair of goals in the first half and then added a goal 12 minutes into the second half to complete the blank sheet.
Meg Tate checked in first for Drexel, scoring the first goal of the season in the 38th minute of the game. A cross from Elise Duffy found the left foot of Tate. The graduate student's shot hit the crossbar and bounced into the goal.
A minute later, Annalena O'Reilly chipped a ball over the defense, and Liv Brocious tapped the ball past the outstretched glove of the Rams goalkeeper to score the first goal of her career.
The Dragons scored their third goal in the 58th minute of the game. Isabel Kuzy gathered a ball that got away from the Fordham keeper and took advantage of an open net to notch her first tally of the season.
Molly Piso earned the start in goal for Drexel and went 45 minutes but did not have to make any saves. Newcomer Joella Chase entered the game in the second half and made five saves, including a pair of saves in the game's final minutes to keep the shutout alive.
Drexel returns to the pitch on Sunday, August 20, to face the No. 14 Pitt Panthers. The Dragons and Panthers are slated to play at 1 p.m. at Ambrose Urbanic Field. Action can be seen on the ACC Network.
