Lappin Nets First of the Season as Dragons Downed at No. 14 Pitt

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Delaney Lappin scored her first goal of the season, but the Drexel women's soccer team was downed by the No. 14 Pitt Panthers 4-1 on Sunday afternoon.
Lappin got the Dragons on the board in the 55th minute. Annalena O'Reilly ripped a shot from outside of the box that banged off the crossbar. The loose ball was collected by Gabrielle Perrotto who sent it across to Lappin, striking home her 21st career goal, moving her into sole possession of third place on the DU all-time list.
Drexel fell behind early as the Panthers scored three times in the opening 12:35 of the match. From there, the Dragons settled down and started to counter as Meg Tate and Elise Duffy provided a spark off the bench. Joella Chase also came up with a trio of big saves in goal, two of them coming in quick succession from within the penalty area off a Pitt corner.
DU returns to action on Thursday, August 24 when it hosts UMBC. Opening tap from Vidas Field is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
