Drexel Falls to Charleston, 60-48

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Drexel women's basketball team fell to the College of Charleston Cougars on Friday night, 60-48. Drexel dropped to 7-7 and 2-1 in CAA play, while Charleston improved to 11-3 and 3-0 in conference play.
BY THE NUMBERS
Three Dragons broke double-digits against the Cougars. Jasmine Valentine scored a career-high 11 points, while Chloe Hodges and Amaris Baker each scored 10.
The Dragons grabbed 36 total rebounds. Of those boards, 14 were offensive. Momo LaClair led the team with eight total rebounds.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dragons held the conference's best-scoring team to just 14 points in the first quarter on 6-for-13 shooting. The Dragons also forced four turnovers and grabbed seven offensive rebounds. Valentine led the Dragons with five points.
Drexel's offensive woes continued in the second quarter, shooting 5-for-14. However, the defense continued to pressure and disrupt the Cougars' offensive plan, holding them to just 6-for-13 and only 2-for-8 from deep. The Dragons out-rebounded the Cougars in the second quarter 12-5. Of those 12 rebounds, five were offensive. LaClair and Baker led the Dragons with four and three, respectively. Charleston led the Dragons, 29-22.
Alexis Andrews led the Cougars to a 17-point third quarter. The Dragons received offensive production from five different players in the third frame and finished the quarter with 11 points. CofC led the Dragons, 46-33, at the end of the third quarter.
The Dragons outscored the Cougars in the fourth quarter. Drexel contributed 15 to its total, while Charleston put 14 on the board. With 4:30 left in the quarter, Drexel pulled within six points of the Cougars. But Charleston scored back-to-back buckets in the paint to pull further away.

The Dragons travel to UNCW to face the Seahawks in the finale of week two of conference play. Tip off from Wilmington is set for noon.
