BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The Dragons were victorious in their final three matches but were unable to complete their comeback as they fell to Binghamton, 19-15, on Saturday night. The contest signified the start of EIWA dual competition for both programs.
The first match of the night saw Cody Walsh against No. 20 Brevin Cassella. Points were far to come by as no one was able to put up any until BU scored on a takedown a minute into the second period. Walsh was unable to tie the match in short time and fell 4-1, as the Bearcats claimed the first victory. In the next match, Jack Janda entered the third period with a one-point lead. Gamkrelidze escaped at the start of the frame to tie the match. Janda was able to shoot low and earn a takedown with under ten seconds left to win by decision, 4-1 and tie the dual at three. Binghamton was victorious by technical falls at 184 and 197 pounds to take a 13-3 advantage. At heavyweight, Santino Morina battled as he scored on a reversal and takedown but fell by decision to No. 19 Cory Day.
Desmond Pleasant held a 1-0 lead at 125 pounds headed into the final two minutes. Wagner earned a reversal and Pleasant escaped which tied the dual at two as they headed into extra time. The redshirt-sophomore prevailed as he scored on a takedown 55 seconds into sudden victory. The decision stopped an 8-0 run for BU. In the next bout, the first point of the match was awarded to Micah Roes early in the third period. Maroney was unable to find the equalizer and fell 2-0 after a riding time point was given.
