Dragons Defeat Hampton to Open CAA Play, 72-57

PHILADELPHIA – Four Dragons scored double digits in Drexel's victory against the Hampton Pirates to open conference play on Friday night at the Daskalakis Athletic Center, 72-57. The Dragons improve to 6-6, while the Pirates fall to 0-11.
BY THE NUMBERS
Brooke Mullin scored 22 points and tallied four boards with three assists. Momo LaClair finished the game with 12 points, tying a career-high.
Grace O'Neill and Jasmine Valentine each had 10 points. The 10 points set a new career mark for Valentine.
It is the first time since their game against Longwood on November 30, 2022, that four Dragons reached double figures.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dragons found their way to the charity stripe 10 times in the first quarter after drawing seven fouls. The Dragons held the Pirates to just 4-for-12 from the field. However, Hampton converted on 3-of-5 3-pointers. Drexel held a 20-11 lead at the end of the first frame.
Hampton chipped away at the Drexel lead in the second quarter after Camryn Hill scored 13 points. The Dragons received a scoring boost from Valantine, who scored six points. Erin Sweeney and Mullin both had four points. The Dragons held a 36-30 lead heading into the locker room for halftime.
The Pirates outscored the Dragons once more in the third quarter, 16-15. Hampton shot 50 percent from the field and also from long range. Hill continued to carry the Pirates, pushing her total to 24.
Drexel took control in the fourth quarter, limiting Hampton to just two field goals and forcing them to earn points from the free throw line. Drexel, on the other hand, went 9-for-14 from the floor and 2-for-3 from deep to pace the Pirates by 10 points.

Drexel returns to the DAC on Sunday to face the Northeastern Huskies. Tip off is slated for 2 p.m.
