Dragons Erase 14-Point Deficit to Defeat Northeastern, 67-65

PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel women's basketball team overcame a 14-point deficit in the second half to defeat the Northeastern Huskies on Sunday afternoon, 67-65. The Dragons (7-6, 2-0 CAA) scored 38 points in the final 20 minutes and held the Huskies (4-8, 0-2 CAA) to just 27 to earn their second conference win and remain unbeaten in CAA play.
BY THE NUMBERS
Amaris Baker turned in a complete game, scoring 19 points and dishing out five assists. The 19-point performance tied a career-high and it was the fifth time that the junior has scored double-digits this season.
Chloe Hodges scored 17 of her 21 total points in the second half of the game. Hodges went 7-for-10 from the field and earned seven more points from the free-throw line to help set her career mark.
Brooke Mullin broke double-digits eighth time this season, scoring 17 points. The graduate student made a 3-pointer with just over a minute left to play in the third to give Drexel its first lead of the game.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Northeastern jumped out to an early 10-point lead after scoring 19 points in the first quarter. Baker scored seven of Drexel's nine points.
The Dragons and Huskies were neck-and-neck in the second quarter. Mullin scored 10 points to help Drexel post 20-points to end the first half. Deja Bristol scored eight points in the Huskies 19-point quarter. The Huskies went to the locker room ahead by nine, 38-29.
Drexel erased a nine-point deficit and took the lead for the first time to close out the third quarter. A layup by Baker with four seconds remaining closed out the 26-point quarter for DU, and gave the Dragons a 55-53 lead. Derin Erdogan shot 5-for-8 for the Huskies and tallied 13 of the team's 15 points in the quarter. The Dragons were able to get to the free throw line nine times in the third quarter and converted on all of the chances.
DU played exceptional defense in the fourth quarter, limiting the Huskies to 12 points, their lowest-scoring quarter of the game. With a minute and a half left in regulation, Northeastern missed a pair of free throws that would have given the team the lead. Hodges took advantage of the missed opportunities from the free throw line and drove to the basket with one minute remaining. The layup by the senior proved to be the game-winner.

The Dragons start the road portion of conference play on Friday, January 12 in Charleston, S.C. Tip off against the Cougars is slated for 7 p.m. Following the game against Charleston, Drexel travels to Wilmington, N.C. to face UNCW on Sunday, January 14 at noon.
