
Drexel Falls to No. 1 Penn State

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Drexel wrestling team fell to No. 1 Penn State Sunday afternoon in Happy Valley, 41-3. The Dragons move to 0-4 on the year, with three of those losses against ranked opponents.
The dual started at 133 pounds after a forfeit by Drexel at 125 pounds, giving the Nittany Lions the 6-0 lead. Kyle Waterman came up just short to No. 7 ranked Braeden Davis, falling by decision 7-5. David took the early lead in the first, securing a takedown in the opening seconds to go up 3-1. After another takedown by Davis in the second, Waterman was able to secure two reversal to cut the lead down to just one. Davis chose down to start the third period, quickly earning an escape point on his way to the win, 7-5.
Jordan Soriano got the Dragons on the board in the 141 match. The junior was the lone Dragon to score as he defeated Cael Nasdeo by decision, 11-8. Soriano found himself down 6-1 in the first after two takedowns by Nasdeo. The Westbury, New York native secured an escape point and reversed an attempt from Nasdeo for a takedown of his own to trail by just one, 6-5. Nasdeo managed the one point for an escape with just two seconds left on the clock to start the second period up, 6-5. Soriano recorded another takedown at the 1:15 mark to tie things 8-8 after two. Soriano chose down to begin the third, quickly taking two points with a reverse to take the lead 10-8. Soriano picked up one more point for riding time to take the decision win, 11-8.
At 149 pounds, Dom Findora fell just short to Connor Pierce in a hard fought battle. At the 1:20 mark of the first, Pierce earned the takedown to score the first three points of the match. Findora managed an escape point after choosing down to start the second period. Both went scoreless the remainder of the period as Findora trailed 3-1 with two minutes left. Pierce took the escape point after starting down to add to his lead, 4-1. Findora tied things up at 4-4, managing a single leg takedown. An escape point with 1:10 left was enough for Piece to take the decision win, 5-4.
Luke Nichter took on Alex Facundo in the 157 pound bout. Facundo recorded a takedown over Facundo in the first to take the early lead in the opening minute, 3-0. Nichter quickly rebounded to score an escape point with 1:40 left in the opening period. The second period started with a reversal by Facundo, adding to his lead 5-1. After earning another escape point, Nichter tied things up at five apiece after he took down Facundo for the three-point score. Facundo fought this way out with 0:08 seconds left on the clock for the two points, taking the lead into the final period up 7-5. Nichter knocked the lead down to just one after another escape, but with 1:24 of riding time, Facundo earned the win, 8-6.
