PHILADELPHIA - Five Dragons earn bonus points as the Drexel wrestling team took down Ohio Tuesday night in Philadelphia, 26-16. This was Drexel's first home dual win of the season and the first over the Bobcats in seven tries.
Desmond Pleasant, Kyle Waterman, Jordan Soriano, Cody Walsh, Giuseppe Hoose and Ethan Wilson all saw their hands raised. The Dragons improve to 2-4 on the year.
Desmond Pleasant started things off hot for Drexel against Ryan Meek at 125 pounds. The redshirt junior got the early lead, earning a takedown in the first minute. Kyle Waterman recorded the most points on the night, taking a dominant 21-5 technical fall victory over Mason Brugh at 133 pounds. Waterman secured three takedowns in just the first period, entering the second up 9-1. The Holland, Pa. native took down Brugh four more times in the match to record the win.
Jordan Soriano scored the buzzer beater fall over Kaden Jett at 141 pounds. Soriano earned the takedown, and went for the finish. With just five seconds remaining in the first, the Westbury Native picked up the pin, giving Drexel the 15-0 lead.
It only took one point for Cody Walsh to get the win over Jack Lledo at 165 pounds. An escape point in the third was enough to get the job done and steal the 1-0 decision.
Giuseppe Hoose upset Jeremy Olszko at 184 pounds, who was ranked No. 24 in the nation according to Wrestlestat. After a scoreless first period, Hoose controlled the rest of the match.
The graduate student earned two hard fought takedowns in the second to lead 6-1. Hoose scored eight more points in the final two minutes on way for more bonus points, taking the 18-6 major decision.
