No. 8 Men's Squash Blanks No. 19 MIT to Advance to Final Round of the MASC Championships

PHILADELPHIA – The No. 8 Drexel men's squash team took down the No. 19 MIT Engineers in their second game of the MASC Squash Championships on Saturday in a 9-0 sweep. With the win, the Dragons will advance to the final round of the tournament as they will play Virginia on Sunday, Feb. 10. With the win, the Dragons improved their record to 8-5 while MIT fell to 11-12.

Shomari Wiltshire got things started for the Dragons as he took down Yos Wagenmans in the eight spot with an 11-4, 11-6, 11-3 score. Afterwards, it was Youssef Bastawy who defeated Mero Elmarassy from the top of the ladder, scoring 11-0, 11-8, 11-4. In the seven spot, Sean Murphy downed Mitav Nayak 11-2, 11-5, 11-4. Fritiof Jacobsson was next in the four spot as he was victorious against Collin Wen by a score of 11-7, 11-4, 11-8.

The next victory for the Dragons came via Matthew Lucente who in the nine spot, defeated Andrew Ding in an 11-3, 11-2, 11-6 sweep. Following Lucente was José López who defeated Robert Albani 11-6, 11-3, 11-8 from the five spot. Darien Benn secured the victory against Nikhil Kakarla in the six spot by a score of 11-6, 11-7, 11-5. Up next, Haris Qasim knocked down Phillip Hyun Su Price 3-1 in the two spot by a score of 9-11, 11-6, 11-4, 11-4. Lastly, Yuri Pelbart shut the door against John Gunton in the three spot, winning by a score of 4-11, 11-6, 11-9, 11-2.

Up next, the Dragons will get ready for the final round of the MASC Squash Championships as they will face Virginia on Sunday, Feb. 11 from Philadelphia. Action is slated to start at 10:00 a.m.
