Golf Fires 4-Under 284 in Final Round in Puerto Rico

Dragons Place 10th in Their First Tournament of the Spring

HUMACAO, Puerto Rico - The Drexel golf team finished its first tournament of the spring with a solid 4-under par 284 in their final round at the Palmas del Mar Collegiate. The Dragons placed 10th overall in the 16-team field with a 5-under par 859 in the 54-hole event.
Graduate student Oscar Maxfield saved his best round of the tournament for the final day. The Utah native fired a 4-under 68 on Tuesday morning. Maxfield had seven birdies on the day and led the entire field in both par-5 scoring and in eagles with four. He finished tied for 12th at 5-under par. Drue Nicholas, Tafadzwa Nyamukondiwa and Caleb Taylor each shot even par in their last round at the par-72 Palmas del Mar-Flamboyan Course (7,122 yards). Nicholas was at par or better in all three rounds and tied for 21st overall at 2-under par. Nyamukondiwa was at 2-over par for the tournament, while Taylor was at 3-over par. Griffin Mitchell ended the day with a 73 and closed out the tournament at 4-over par. Liam Hart, playing as an individual, had a nice final round with a 2-under-par 70.
Arkansas won the Palmas del Mar Collegiate with a 27-under par 837. The Razorbacks were seven strokes better than UNCG, who hosted the tournament, and eight better than Kennesaw State. Michigan and Rutgers rounded out the top five.
The Dragons will have a few weeks off before competing in he Peoples Golf Championship, presented by Sea Palms Resort and hosted by Western Carolina. That tournament takes place in St. Simons Island, Ga. and begins on March 5.
