PHILADELPHIA - Drexel wrestling is set to take on Hofstra at the Daskalakis Athletic Center as they celebrate senior day on Saturday, February 24 at 4 p.m. Drexel is set to honor seniors Santino Morina, Connor Trowbridge and Tyler Williams prior to the match. The Dragons will compete the night before against B1G foe, Maryland in a non-conference matchup.
About Drexel
Drexel went 1-1 in back-to-back duals last weekend at the DAC, moving to 7-9 overall and 4-4 in conference matches. DU was dominant in the win against LIU on Friday, with nine Dragons getting their hand raised in the match up. The next day the Dragons faced Franklin & Marshall in a hard fought battle, taking the defeat with five wrestlers securing wins. No. 33 Cody Walsh picked up two more victories over the weekend, improving to a team high 21 wins on the season. Walsh has been on fire in the last few weeks, winning his last six matches and re-entering the national rankings on February 6. Dom Findora and Tyler Williams also both gained two victories. Desmond Pleasant inked a huge win at 125 against LIU. Pleasant earned his third fall of the year with the rowdy spirit night crowd cheering behind him.
Never Count the Dragons Out
John Hildebrandt, Jack Janda, Dom Findora, and Jordan Soriano have defeated at least one ranked opponent this season. Hildebrandt boasts wins over #7 Michael Colaiocco (Penn) and #27 Mason Leiphart (F&M) by decision. Janda defeated #18 Sal Perrine of Ohio in dual action on Dec. 18, 5-2. Findora won against #33 Thomas Deck (Army) by decision, 7-6 from West Point, NY. Soriano was the latest Dragon to pull an upset, winning by fall in 1:45 against #28 Jason Miranda of Stanford.
National Recognition
Walsh has stayed steady in the national rankings, improving to a season high #28 in the Intermat poll and #32 in the FloWrestling poll at 165 lbs.. Kyle Waterman, Luke Nichter, Jack Janda, and Mickey O'Malley have also gathered national recognition this season.
