NEWARK, Del. – Drexel closed the first half with a 13-0 run and went on to a 70-60 win against Delaware at the Bob Carpenter Center. The Dragons swept the season series from the Blue Hens for the second straight year. Justin scored a game-high 20 points, while the Dragons had big contributions from Lucas Monroe and Amari Williams as they improved to 18-11 on the season. Drexel is now tied for third place in the CAA with an 11-5 record. The Dragons have now won three straight games on the road against Delaware for the first time since the late 1980's.
Drexel trailed by as many as 10 points in the first half, but played well on the defensive end over the final seven minutes. They took control of the game by shutting out the Blue Hens over the last 5:18 of the half. Moore had nine of the team's 13 points in the run, with Shane Blakeney adding the other four. The Dragons took a 33-27 lead into the locker room and never trailed again.
Delaware wouldn't go quietly. The Blue Hens (17-12, 9-7) stayed within striking distance and after they scored six-point run, they cut the Drexel lead to 57-52. Drexel responded with five straight points to extend the lead. Lucas Monroe, who finished with 13 points, scored on a short jumper and then on the next possession, with the shot clock expiring, he drained a 3-pointer right in front of Drexel's bench. The Dragons kept it a two-possession game the rest of the way as they won for the fourth straight time against Delaware for the first time since the 1997-98 season.
Moore returned to the line-up after missing the Hofstra game due to illness and had his fourth 20-point performance of the year. He was outstanding in the first half, scoring 11 points on 5-for-8 shooting without committing a turnover. Monroe finished the night 6-for-7 from the floor, had six rebounds and two steals. Amari Williams was a force all night on both ends. Williams picked up his 24th career double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. He had a pair of blocked shots but was a huge presence on the defensive end altering shots.
Christian Ray led the Blue Hens with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Jyare Dvis was held to just 5-for-15 shooting from the floor and 11 points. Niels Lane and Gerald Drumgoole, Jr. each scored 10 points.
The Dragons shot 50 percent from the floor in the game and once again outrebounded their opponents (36-31). They held Delaware to just 2-for-15 from long range.
Drexel returns home for its final two regular-season games. The Dragons host Stony Brook on Thursday night and close the regular season on Saturday against Northeastern.
