Dragons Down Stony Brook, Clinch Double Bye in Upcoming CAA Championships

PHILADELPHIA - Drexel used a 15-0 run midway through the second half and went on to defeat Stony Brook, 90-86, at the Daskalakis Athletic Center. The win clinched a double-bye for the Dragons in the upcoming CAA Championships in Washington, D.C. Justin Moore scored a game-high 25 points as Drexel won for the 12th straight time on its home court. The Dragons are now 19-11 and 12-5 in CAA play.
Drexel trailed by as many as eight points and Stony Brook (16-14, 9-8) led for the entire first half. The Seawolves had a six-point lead with just under 15 minutes to play when the Dragons offense suddenly clicked. In a span of just over two minutes, Drexel rattled off 12 straight points on only four shots. Kobe MaGee, Luke House, Moore and Mate Okros each hit a 3-pointer to put the Dragons ahead on the scoreboard. The run reached 15 after Amari Williams made one of two free throws and then followed up a missed shot with a dunk, making it 61-52. The Dragons led the rest of the way, but the Seahawks wouldn't go quietly. and the first five minutes of the second half. The Dragons seemed to have the game in hand with a nine-point cushion with 1:04 remaining. However, Stony Brook sank three 3-pointers in the final minute as the Dragons had to clinch the game from the line. House made all four of his free throw attempts in the final 16 seconds to seal the victory.
Moore had his second straight game of 20 or more points. He sank four 3-pointers and handed out six assists. Williams had a solid all-around game with 16 points, eight rebounds, three steals and two blocked shots. House finished with 15, while Mate Okros chipped in with 11 points. Drexel shot a blistering 64 percent in the second half and was 5-for-8 from deep.
Stony Brook had five players score in double digits. Dean Noll led the way with 21 points, while Tyler Stephenson-Moore had 20. In the foul plagued game, the Seawolves took advantage of their free throw attempts, making 18 of 20 in the second half.
Drexel plays its final home game on Saturday against Northeastern. It will be Senior Day at the DAC beginning at 4 p.m.
