No. 8 Men's Squash Downs No. 22 Navy 9-0 in Day One of MASC Championships

PHILADELPHIA– The No. 8 Drexel University men's squash team opened to a hot start in the Mid-Atlantic Squash Championships, taking down No. 22 Navy in a rematch by a score of 9-0 Friday afternoon. With the win, the Dragons improved their overall record to 6-5 while Navy fell down to 12-13 overall on the season.
Starting things off for the Dragons was Youssef Bastawy who won with an 11-6, 11-2, 11-6 score at the two spot against Henry Sparkman. Following this was an 11-2, 11-4, 11-5 victory for Guido Lindner in the four spot against Alexander Orr. Michael Berry picked up the win in the eight spot against Holden Woodward, scoring an 11-2, 11-2, 11-2 win. Yuri Pelbart kept it going for the Dragons in the three spot, securing the victory with an 11-4, 11-6, 11-1 win against Lucas Spiro.
Matthew Lucente was next as he was victorious in the seventh spot for the Dragons against Ramsay Killinger by a score of 11-5, 11-3, 11-1. Following Lucente was José López who won at number five scoring 11-4, 12-10, 11-6 against Matthew Kang. Darien Benn was successful against Tighe Mullarkey, going 11-8, 11-8, 11-3 in the six spot. Lastly, Nico Serna went the distance as he was able to edge out Matthew Wang in the one spot, 6-11, 11-7, 11-13, 11-5, 11-7.
Up next the Dragons face-off against No. 19 MIT as the Mid-Atlantic Squash Conference Championships continue. The action kicks off Saturday morning at 2:00 p.m.
