
Men's Soccer Falls to Marquette, 2-0

MILWAUKEE, WISC. – The Drexel men's soccer team was defeated in its season-opener by Marquette, 2-0, on Thursday night in Milwaukee.
There were a total of seven Dragons who made their collegiate and Drexel debuts. Omar Jallow and Gavin Carmichael each made their Dragon debut in the starting XI. Carmichael turned in a full 90 minute performance on the back line, while Jallow finished with 67 minutes. Mo Diallo, Yorgos Gavas, Sebastian Perez-Gasiba, Ethan Schaefer and Julian Pittaoulis all entered the game as substitutions and earned their first minutes as Dragons.
In the 12th minute of the game, Marquette took the ball to the right side of the field to the baseline. Abdoul Karim Pare then fired a shot past Capogna to put Marquette ahead by one.
The Golden Eagles tacked on another in the 27th minute of the game. Mitchel Dryden corralled the ball on top of the penalty box, unloaded a powerful shot and found the left side of the goal.
The Dragons had a chance on goal with under two minutes left. Gavas turned a 20-yard free kick into a strong shot on goal. The 6-foot-7 Marquette keeper just got his fingers on the shot and deflected it to the side to keep the Dragons off the board.
Drexel travels west to Madison on Sunday to face Wisconsin in a Sunday matchup. Action against the Big Ten opponent is slated for 2 p.m. eastern.
