
Dragons Draw With Penn, 3-3

PHILADELPHIA - The Drexel men's soccer team tied the Penn Quakers, 3-3, at Rhodes Field on Tuesday night. The Dragons held a 3-1 lead heading into the second half, but could not hold off the fast-paced Penn offense.
The Dragons took advantage early, striking in the third minute. Yorgos Gavas played a ball up to the attacking front. Gianluca Grubic touched the ball past the sprawling keeper and Victor Moerck finished the play to give Drexel its first point.
In the 14th minute, Jack Shannon intercepted a pass at midfield and beat multiple Penn defenders to get create enough space to take a shot. The freshman's shot beat the goalkeeper and gave Drexel an insurance goal.
Penn answered in the 29th minute, finishing a penalty kick that beat Owen Moore to the left of the goal.
The Dragons pulled back ahead by two in the 41st minute. Morgan Worsfold-Gregg took a free kick from just outside the penalty box and bent it past the diving Quaker goalkeeper. The Dragons entered the locker room at halftime leading the match, 3-1.
Penn controlled the second half. The Quakers outshot the Dragons 8-2 and produced nine more corner kicks, holding that advantage, 10-1. The home team managed to score their second goal of the game in the 72nd minute. Then, they scored the equalizer in the 76th minute.
The Dragons travel to Long Island on Saturday to face Stony Brook in a conference matchup. Kickoff against the Seawolves is set for 2 p.m. on FloCollege.
