
Dragons Blank Mercyhurst, 2-0

PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel men's soccer team completed a shutout against Mercyhurst at Vidas Field on Wednesday afternoon, 2-0. The Dragons scored a goal in each half to take down the Lakers in the first of three-straight nonconference matches.
Owen Moore drew the start between the posts for Drexel and did not face a single shot on target. On the offensive end, Drexel peppered the Mercyhurst goal by taking 10 shots and putting four on target.
Drexel scored its first tally of the game in the 30th minute of the match. A play started by Morgan Worsfold-Gregg at midfield made its way to Finn Van Den Berg who played a perfect ball to Gianluca Grubic. Grubic took a step to his left and fired a shot towards the net to finish the play.
Drexel took a two-goal lead after about two minutes into the second half. After the Mercyhurst goalkeeper mishandled the ball, Christian Combs corralled the ball and shot it into the open net.
Drexel completed its first shutout of the season, after holding the Lakers to just one corner kick in the second half.
The Dragons return to action on Saturday, September 13, when they travel to city-rival La Salle. Action from McCarthy Stadium is slated for 7 p.m. on ESPN+.
