Drexel Rallies From Four Goals Down to Draw with Lehigh in Historic Comeback, 4-4

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Drexel women's soccer team rallied from a four-goal deficit to draw with Lehigh, 4-4, Sunday night at Vidas Field. The comeback was the biggest in program history.

The Mountain Hawks picked up their first goal within the first minute of the game. Ester Brossard earned the takeaway from the Dragons and tallied for the first time in her career to give Lehigh the early lead, 1-0.

Lehigh doubled the lead in the 31st minute. Summer Hill found Sophia Lis, who slotted the shot in the bottom right of the net for their second goal of the night.

The Mountain Hawks capitalized off a missed shot in the 39th minute for their third goal. Hope Flanegin's shot hit the left post, but Dakota Russel came charging in to bury it through the back of the net, adding to the lead 3-0. Just under a minute later, Cyndea Labissiere recorded her first career goal, the fourth straight goal for Lehigh. The speedy forward beat the Dragon defender and raced downfield. Her shot was nearly blocked by Widnick, but squeaked in for the tally.

The Dragons quickly answered, scoring just 20 seconds after the Lehigh score. Makenzie McCready came off the bench to score her first career goal off the deflection to get Drexel on the board. The score would stay 4-1 at the half.

Casey Touey scored back-to-back goals to bring the lead down to just one. She scored her first goal in the 56th minute. Touey found the back of the net, tallying with the left boot after getting around the Lehigh defender. Her second came in the 68th minute. The Rockledge, Pa. native hit a rocket just over the diving Mountain Hawks goalie for her second goal of the night.

In the 85th minute, Jess Castorina came in clutch for the Dragons. After a yellow card from Lehigh's Flanegin, Madison Maxwell launched the free kick just in front of the net. Castorina capped off the historic comeback, putting away the shot after the header from Kelly Jones.

Both teams were held scoreless in the final minutes, as Drexel drew with Lehigh, 4-4. After recording her first career win against Penn, Sammy Widnick collected six saves in the draw.

The Dragons return to action Sunday, September 8 as Drexel travels to Washington, D.C. to battle George Washington. Kick off is set for 1 p.m.
