WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Drexel women's soccer team fell in a close battle to George Washington in the Nation's Capital Sunday afternoon, 2-1.
The Dragons opened the game with the first goal of the day. Liv Brocious scored her third goal of the season in the 9th minute. The Cherry Hill, New Jersey avoided the diving Revolutionaries goalkeeper and fired through the back of the net to put DU up, 1-0.
George Washington quickly responded in the 18th minute. Off the GW throw-in, Abby Mansoor's shot was saved by Sammy Widnick, but Isabell Kelly took advantage of the deflection to tie the game up at one apiece. Joella Chase took over as goalkeeper to start the second half. This was the graduate student's first appearance of the season.
Both teams fought back and forth until the Revolutionaries tallied in the 75th minute. Kate McGrath beat the Drexel defender in the right corner of the field and hit a perfect low cross to Alicia Window. Window put the pass away with the left boot, giving George Washington the win, 2-1.
Drexel returns to the pitch Thursday, September 12 as they take on the Princeton Tigers. Kick-off is set for 7:00 p.m. on ESPN+.
