PRINCETON, N.J. - A pair of goals in the second half was too much for the Dragons to overcome as Drexel (1-4-1) fell to Princeton (4-1) Thursday night in Princeton, New Jersey, 2-1.
The Dragons opened the game with an electric start. In just the 5th minute of the contest, Drexel tallied thanks to the left boot of Casey Touey. Midfielder Tori Yost served a backdoor pass to Touey who was sprinting downfield. The senior beat the Tiger's goalie to the ball and put away the floater for her third goal of the year.
DU controlled the tempo in the first half, as the Dragons shot four goals on target compared to Princeton's one. Joella Chase made her first start of the season at goalkeeper, collecting a save.
Princeton opened the second half with a strike of their own. In the 46th minute, Heather MacNab dropped a free kick just in front of Drexel keeper Sammy Widnick. After a short scramble for the ball, Drew Coomans put away the shot in the left corner of the net to tie the game at one.
Summer Pierson scored the game-winner for the Tigers in the 73 minute. MacNah picked up her second assist of the game, hitting the cross over to Pierson who tapped the header in for her first career goal.
The Tigers out shot the Dragons 11-4 in the second half. Widnick recorded four saves in just 45 minutes of play.
Drexel is set to open CAA play as they battle Towson back home Thursday, September 19. Opening tap from Vidas is set for 6 p.m.
