Drexel Takes Down Towson in CAA Opener, 1-0

PHILADELPHIA - Laila Payton of Drexel women's soccer (2-4-1, 1-0) collected her first goal of the season as the Dragons took down Towson (2-3-5, 0-1) in their CAA opener Thursday night, 1-0. With the win, DU stays undefeated at home with a record of 2-0-1.
After a scoreless first half, Drexel was able to tally the lone score of the match. Elise Duffy served up the cross to Payton, who knocked in the jumping header through the bottom of the net to collect the winning goal.
Joella Chase made her second start of the season, picking up seven saves, with five coming in the second half. Additionally, the graduate student earned her first shutout of the 2024 season.
The Dragons return to the pitch on Sunday, September 22 as they face Monmouth. Action from West Long Branch, N.J. is set for 1 p.m.
