Dragons Fall in Overtime to Towson, 93-82

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Towson scored the final six points in regulation and went on to defeat Drexel in overtime, 93-82, on Saturday afternoon at the Daskalakis Athletic Center.
The game went back and forth for the first 40 minutes as neither team was able to take a lead of more than six points. Towson (8-9, 3-1) led by four with eight minutes to play, but Drexel retook the lead on a Jason Drake lay-up with 6:48 remaining. The Dragons (10-7, 2-2) held a slim lead until the final seconds of regulation. Cole Hargrove extended the lead to six points when he converted a three-point play with a minute left on the clock. Hargrove had 11 of his 19 points in the final 6:10 of regulation. Towson cut the lead in half when Nendah Tarke hit a long 3-pointer with 50 seconds left. On the ensuing possession, Drake missed a jumper and the Tigers' Tarke hit another 3-pointer to tie it with 14 seconds left. Drexel had one last chance in regulation, but Kobe MaGee's long 3-point attempt missed and the teams went to overtime.
In the overtime, Towson scored the first 10 points and went 5-for-5 shooting to escape with the win. The Tigers, who were picked to win the CAA, were led by Tarke, who had 27 points and four 3-pointers, He came into the game shooting 21 percent from behind the arc. Drew Williamson came off the bench to go 10-for-15 for 26 points and handed out seven assists.
Drexel's Yame Butler led four Dragons in double figures with 21 points. The senior also had four steals as the Dragons recorded a season-best nine steals. Hargrove finished with 19 points and eight rebounds, while MaGee added 18. Drake scored 10 and led Drexel with four assists.
Towson outrebounded the Dragons, 43-31, shot 55 percent overall and was 9-for-20 from deep. They scored 68 points off the bench, including the combined 53 by Tarke and Williamson.
The Dragons scored the final six points of the first half to tie the game at 32-32. Butler had 13 points in the opening half, but the Dragons missed eight free throws in the half. Overall, Drexel made just 15 of its 27 free throw attempts. They did shoot 48 percent overall in the game and committed a season-low seven turnovers.
