PHILADELPHIA - Kobe MaGee scored 22 points as Drexel defeated Delaware on Homecoming at the Daskalakis Athletic Center, 67-54. The Dragons' defense held the Blue Hens to their fewest points this season as Drexel defeated their long-time rival for the fifth-straight time. It was the final visit to the DAC for the Blue Hens as a member of the CAA.
Drexel (12-9, 4-4 CAA) held a three-point lead at halftime and did not trail in the second half. The Blue Hens made it a one-possession game three times, but the Dragons used a 12-2 run to extend the lead to 10 with just under 13 minutes remaining. Yame Butler, who sat out the first half due to a suspension, scored seven of the 10 points in that stretch. Delaware (11-10, 4-4) answered with six straight points of their own t cut the margin to four. They wouldn't get any closer as the Dragons held UD to just nine field goals and 31 percent shooting in the second half. The Blue Hens went 0-for-7 from behind the arc in the final 20 minutes.
MaGee made four 3-pointers on the way to his fourth game with 20 or more points this season. Cole Hargrove had a nice night for DU. The junior scored 10 points, grabbed eight rebounds and rejected three shots. Butler added nine points and seven rebounds in just 16 minutes. The Dragons outrebounded the Blue Hens by 18 boards and allowed just three offensive rebounds.
Cava Reilly scored 17 in a losing cause for the Blue Hens, while Erik Timko added 14. The Dragons defense, led by Shane Blakeney, held John Camden to just five points. Camden came into the game leading the CAA in 3-point percentage and ranked fifth in scoring.
Drexel begins a brief two-game road swing on Thursday night when it visits Monmouth. Next weekend the Dragons will play at Towson in a nationally-televised game before returning home to the DAC to face William & Mary on Feb. 6.
