Wrestling Takes Down Rider, 21-12

Lawrenceville, N.J. - Mickey O'Malley earned his first fall of the season as helped the Dragons to a 21-12 win over Rider Saturday night. This marks Drexel's third straight victory, improving their record to 7-8 and 2-1 in conference. Jasiah Queen, Ibrahim Ameer, No. 33 Desmond Pleasant, Kyle Waterman, and Jordan Soriano all saw their hands raised.
Queen earned the first three points for the Dragons at 174-pounds against Michael Wilson. The redshirt freshman started the first period off hot, recording three takedowns. Queen secured the early takedown in the first thirty seconds, and soon after fired through with a double leg to get another three points. The Elizabeth, New Jersey native added three more points to end the first up 9-3. Queen collected another takedown in the final 40 seconds of the third, nearly getting bonus points before Wilson responded for three points of his own. Queen took home the decision win, 13-8.
O'Malley made quick work of Bock Zurawski in the 197-pound bout. The graduate student put away his opponent with 10 seconds remaining in the first for his fourth victory of the season and his first pin of the season. O'Malley now has 27 falls in his career, which puts him solely in control of third most in program history.
Ameer made his debut this season at 285-pounds, getting the impressive 9-4 decision win. The senior recorded three takedowns on way to the win. Pleasant pulled out an exciting comeback victory over Noah Michaels. The redshirt junior found himself down 7-0 midway through the second period. Pleasant managed two escape points to trail by five entering the final two minutes. The Piscataway, New Jersey native was able to record two takedowns in the final 40 seconds to take the 9-8 decision win.
Waterman earned himself another victory at 133-pounds. The redshirt senior earned all eight of his points in the third period, winning by decision, 8-2. Soriano had another buzzer beater win for Drexel. Soriano secured the takedown over McKenzie Bell as time expired. Bell was ranked No. 29 in the NCAA Coaches poll.
